Police officers from Dandora police station in Nairobi shot and killed a suspect and recovered a Tokarev pistol from a three-man gang that has been terrorising locals.

While on patrol the officers encountered a gang of three young men actively robbing members of the public along Councillor Opundo Road on Thursday.

According to police, upon being challenged to surrender, one of the suspects drew a firearm and started firing at the officers, prompting a decisive response.

One suspect, was fatally injured, while his two accomplices escaped on foot towards the Maili Saba area.

Nairobi police boss Issa Mohamud said a search conducted on the fatally injured suspect led to the recovery of a Tokarev pistol loaded with two live rounds of 9mm ammunition, a military knife and two mobile phones

The scene was processed, and the body moved to the Nairobi City Mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, officers are hot on the trail of the two suspects who escaped.

Police have intensified operations in the city to take cases of armed robberies that have been reported.

Meanwhile, police Police in Lugari Sub-county, Kakamega County, are investigating a fatal robbery with violence incident in which a 78-year-old woman was killed in her home.

The incident was reported on April 30 when a resident was found dead in Bahati B Village, Mugunga Sublocation.

Police visited the scene and found the body of Beatrice Ndeka, a female adult aged 78, lying beside her bed.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased, who lived with her grandson, was attacked during the night by unknown assailants who also robbed her of a mobile phone (Neon Ray valued at KSh 10,000), 25 kilograms of sugar, and 70 kilograms of maize.

Police reported that the body had blood discharge from the mouth but no other visible external injuries were immediately noted.
