Detectives drawn from the office of Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have impounded two vehicles belonging to a Nairobi county government official.

In a tweet, the DCI said the vehicles – Range Rover and Mercedes Benz – were using Motorbike registration numbers KBN 591A and KBG 330E respectively.

During the operation, two other pairs of Number Plates(KCR 985U & KCR 196P) were found in the boot of the Mercedes.

The Tuesday operation, is linked to a Saturday incident where police impounded two other vehicles for evasion of duty through an organized scheme which purports that they were manufactured at a fictitious company in Mombasa.

The DCI said the two Mercedes Benz (registration numbers KCR 565 W and KCR 195 P) belong to Ms Cynthia Wanjiru Gitonga and Mr John Mwangi respectively.

According to the DCI, the two vehicles were declared as having been manufactured as trailers in a Mombasa-based company.

The incident comes days after the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) impounded three illegally imported high end vehicles at the Mombasa port.

The vehicles; two Range Rovers and a Land Rover Discovery, had been stored in two containers that had been declared to be carrying household items.
