    Editors Of Ugandan Tabloid Face Death Penalty Over ‘Treason’ Story

    Uganda n police have charged eight members of the  Red Pepper tabloid with treason for a story done by the publication house alleging that Yoweri Museveni was plotting to oust Rwandan president Paul Kagame

    The managers were also accused of publishing offensive communication and publication of information prejudicial to national security.

    The Ugandan police Emillian Kayima spokesperson confirmed that people who were directors and editors of the Publication have been arrested and charged with treason.

    Treason according to Ugandan laws is punishable by death.

    ‘The Uganda police force initiated investigations into the serious statements and insinuations in that story, that have grave implications on national and regional security and stability’

    The human rights activist in Uganda have a however condemned claiming  that the police have been on stint to harass Independent media houses.

    The lawyer said that the electronic devices of the the arrested directors and editors had been confiscated and the official premises of the publication have been cordoned off.
