Police have recovered a pistol in Dandora, Nairobi, as security agencies continue a nationwide crackdown on criminal gangs.

According to the National Police Service, officers from Dandora Police Station received information at around 1:00 a.m. that three suspicious men, believed to be armed, had been spotted in the Katoo area of Dandora Phase Five.

The officers responded immediately and rushed to the scene, where they spotted the suspects. However, the men fled on seeing the police, leaving behind a jacket as they escaped.

A search of the abandoned jacket led to the recovery of a Desert Eagle .50 AE Magnum pistol, which had no ammunition. The firearm was seized and secured as an exhibit.

Police said the pistol has been taken to the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistic analysis to determine whether it has been used in other criminal activities.

Security agencies have launched a manhunt for the suspects, who are still at large, and have vowed to arrest and charge them in court.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said intelligence-led operations have been intensified across the country to dismantle organised criminal gangs.

“There will be no hiding place for criminals who threaten the safety and peace of innocent Kenyans,” the DCI said.

Police have also urged members of the public to continue sharing timely and credible information to help enhance security operations.
