Residents of Botana–Bomooria village in Rigoma Ward, Nyamira County, have a reason to celebrate after the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) commenced the connection of 104 households to the national electricity grid.

The electrification project marks a significant milestone for the rural community, which has long awaited access to reliable power supply. The connections are part of KPLC’s ongoing last-mile connectivity programme aimed at expanding electricity access to underserved areas across the country.

In Kitutu Masaba Constituency, area MP Clive Gisairo announced that a similar project will soon be rolled out in Kirwanda–Ogango village in Manga Ward. According to the MP, 142 households are set to benefit from the upcoming connections.

Gisairo noted that the initiative forms part of 18 transformers earmarked for installation under KPLC’s maximization programme within Kitutu Masaba Constituency. The programme seeks to enhance power distribution capacity and connect more households located near existing electricity infrastructure.

Additional villages across the constituency are also scheduled to benefit from the electrification drive — a move expected to spur economic growth, improve security, and enhance learning conditions for students.

In neighbouring Nyaribari Masaba Constituency in Kisii County, area MP Daniel Manduku said hundreds of households will also benefit from improved electricity access.

Manduku explained that the initiative targets families that have remained without power despite the expansion of the national grid in the area. He added that the project is part of the government’s broader rural electrification programme designed to stimulate economic growth and improve living standards.

“We have engaged the relevant authorities, and the groundwork has been finalized. Contractors will soon be on site to begin the connections,” he said, assuring residents that transparency and efficiency will guide the implementation process.

The MP emphasized that access to electricity will boost small businesses, enhance security, and improve education by enabling students to study in well-lit environments. He also urged residents to cooperate with officials during the rollout phase to ensure smooth execution.

Local leaders in both constituencies have welcomed the developments, terming them a transformative step toward improving livelihoods and accelerating development in the region.
