    A Kenyan startup and an American based advertising agency with local presence, TBWA, have launched a social media monitoring app in the market. The app which look to tap in to the yet to be exploited social media monitoring and management will help individuals and firms to properly track track sentiments online.

    The app has capability to track both Twitter and Facebook. Future versions of the same app will be able to monitor even the Google+, blogs, Pinterest, Foursquare and other social media platforms. The developers, African Laughter, are already working on version two of the PR Pro app.

    The mobile phone based tool has capabilities to analyse news postings, brand and individual mentions and gauge whether the sentiments are negative or positive.

    Currently there are social media monitoring tools like Klout, Sprout Social, Jamiq, PlayGround by People Browser among others. Tools like Playground are so powerful and intuitive that it will be so hard to really think that the PR Pro  by Kenyans will effectively compete in this field.

    Mr Tim Smyth, the chief executive of TBWA East Africa said;

    “PRPro is a aggregated mobile phone application developed to monitor social media campaigns for both clients and competitors while giving feedback on whether posts are positive or negative. It allows companies to monitor top user or influencers:  changing social media strategies that more often than not have been shooting in the dark by now allowing companies to actively engage with their audiences.”

    TBWA has been in Nairobi since early this year (2012) when it set up its regional hub in the country. It will offer the social media monitoring services to its current clients at no extra fee. Some of its clients are Kenya Airways, StanBic, VISA, Aquafresh, Heritage Insurance and Pepsi.

    African Laughter developed the app at a cost of Ksh 10 million.
