Officials from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority have joined a probe into the death of a suspect who is said to have died by suicide at the Kisumu Central police station.

The body of Kelvin Oduor was found hanging on the window of the station bathroom, police said.

Police on duty were Friday October 31, 2025 preparing to handover to the incoming shift when they found Oduor was missing from among other suspects being held then.

He was later found hanging in a cell bathroom with a string tied around his neck.

The deceased had been arrested over robbery with violence claims.

He had been taken to court and a magistrate allowed police to detain him there for 14 days pending further investigations.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. IPOA was informed of the incident and has since started their investigations over the same.

In Nyeri’s Kiarihiu area, the decomposed body of one Nicholas Kibui, 73 was found in Chehe Forest.

The man went missing on October 20, 2025 and the incident was reported to local authorities.

It is not clear how he died before the body was discovered 11 days later. The deceased had been to the same scene twice in the past in a puzzling incident, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
