A man aged 86 was killed in a suspected domestic attack in Homa Bay County, with his son arrested in connection with the incident.

Police in Rachuonyo East Sub-County said the murder occurred on Saturday night at Gonya Village.

Police said the deceased, identified as John Ouma Okumu, had allegedly been attacked and killed by his 26-year-old son, Vincent Omondi.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect used a sharp object, believed to be an axe, to inflict fatal injuries. The victim sustained a deep cut at the back of the neck.

According to the suspect’s mother, she heard the deceased reprimanding their son over prolonged use of marijuana moments before the attack. When she stepped out of her bedroom, she found her husband lying in a pool of blood.

Police said the suspect briefly went into hiding but later resurfaced at the scene, where he was arrested.

The scene was processed by detectives, and the body was moved to Rachuonyo Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

The suspect is currently being held at Othoro Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, March 23, 2026, police said.

Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Elsewhere, authorities in Meru County are investigating the discovery of a man found dead, hanging from a tree in Tigania West Sub-County.

The grim discovery was reported on Saturday by locals who informed police.

Police confirmed that the deceased was a 38-year-old male identified as Elias Thuranira Nyerere. His body was found hanging from a tree branch using a jumper.

And police in Kiambu County have recovered key evidence in a suspected murder case linked to a mini-bus driver.

Police revisited the scene on 21 March 2026, following an earlier report of a suspected murder earlier that morning.

Their search led them to the home of the prime suspect, who drives a Fuso mini-bus under Metro Trans Sacco.

Police said they recovered several items from the residence, including a blue shirt with stains suspected to be blood, cream-colored socks with black patterns, a green and white toothbrush, his own driving license, and a duplicate driving license belonging to another individual.

The recovered items are expected to form part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation as police continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder.

Authorities have urged anyone with additional information to come forward to assist with the inquiry.

Investigations are ongoing, and further updates are expected as the case develops.
