Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, conducted an inspection tour of key infrastructure projects in Kitui County on Saturday, ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for October 20, 2025.

He visited the ongoing construction at Ithookwe Stadium, the designated venue for the national celebrations, and other supporting facilities to assess their readiness for the upcoming event.

Dr. Omollo confirmed the stadium would be completed in good time and noted that the facility is designed to accommodate up to 10,000 people .

“We are confident the stadium will be ready for Mashujaa Day. It is a project that symbolizes the government’s commitment to inclusivity and national unity,” said Dr.
    Omollo.

The Ithookwe Stadium, once complete, is poised to be one of the largest venues in the region, underscoring the government’s focus on equitable development.

He also visited the site of a new mini State Lodge being constructed in Kitui Town to host visiting dignitaries, and inspected ongoing upgrades at the Ithookwe Airstrip, which will improve regional transport connectivity.

In addition, Dr. Omollo examined a series of roadworks around Kitui, all part of an ambitious infrastructure rollout intended to enhance the county’s accessibility and preparedness for major events

“These three major projects – the stadium, the mini State Lodge, and the airstrip – are not just for Mashujaa Day; they are investments in the long-term growth and visibility of Kitui County,” Dr. Omollo emphasized.

He further underscored the importance of equitable development across the country.

“We want every part of the county to feel the impact of government projects. No region should be left behind.”

According to officials, the projects are expected to boost the local economy, improve transport connectivity, and increase Kitui’s capacity to host national and regional eventsin the future.

Enhanced infrastructure and facilities will leave a lasting legacy beyond the celebrations, helping to spur continued development in the region.

Omollo’s visit comes amid heightened preparations by both the national and county governments to deliver a memorable, inclusive Mashujaa Day celebration, the first ever to be held in Kitui County.

This marks a significant milestone for the county, as local and national authorities work together to ensure the event showcases the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and that no region is left behind in Kenya’s development journey.
