KETRA is a government agency established under the Kenya Trade Remedies Act, 2017. Its role is to protect local industries from unfair trade practices. This includes investigating cases where imported goods are sold in Kenya at very low prices (dumping) or where foreign governments give subsidies to their exporters. When necessary, KETRA recommends measures such as anti-dumping duties, countervailing duties, or temporary import restrictions to ensure fair competition, in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
The agency is currently led by Acting Executive Director (CEO) Samuel K. Chemisto, who oversees its day-to-day management. KETRA’s Board of Directors includes members such as Dr. Wilson Ambechi Songa, who chairs the Finance and Administration Committee, alongside other independent directors.
