    SGR Bosses Now Gag Kenyan Employees with Secrecy Contracts

    SGR staffers and engineers are allegedly being forced to sign non-disclosure agreements in a bid to cover racism claims labelled against them by media investigations.

    Early this week, reports emerged that the Chinese contractors running the multi-billion project have been mistreating Kenyan staffers.

    Among the allegations was underpayment, discrimination and tax evasion through P9 forms given to their staff.

    Kenyan experts hired to receive training from the Chinese with the aim of taking over have been reduced to menial workers and ceremonial assistants even as more Chinese workforce is imported to run the project.

    Most of the Machines and communication also remained in Chinese, blocking out most Kenyans.

    Responding to the reports, Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) launched investigations into the alleged mistreatment of local employees.

    KRC Managing Director Atanas Maina has said that the Chinese contractor will be probed for the recent allegations made in the media, and if found guilty “action will be taken in accordance with the contract between us and the operator and in accordance with the laws of Kenya.”
