President William Ruto has appointed Jaoko Oburu Odinga, nephew to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, as a special advisor on economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods.

Jaoko confirmed the appointment on his official X account, where he thanked the president for the opportunity.

“I wish to take this opportunity to give special thanks to President William Samoei Ruto for granting me an opportunity to serve Kenyans by appointing me to serve in the capacity of a special advisor, economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods. Thank you, Your Excellency,” he posted.

Jaoko is the son of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga.

His appointment comes after the signing of a cooperation deal between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was aimed at working together to address key issues facing Kenyans.

Since the MoU was signed, more individuals linked to ODM and Raila Odinga have found their way into key government positions.

A recent reshuffle in Principal Secretary positions saw several appointments that were viewed as favourable to Raila’s political allies.
