The body of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga has arrived at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) for the national funeral service.
The military convoy transporting the late leader’s body from his Opoda Farm home in Bondo arrived at the university grounds to the sound of hymns and chants from thousands of mourners who had gathered since early morning.
The casket, draped in the national flag, was received by military officers and clergy.
Security around the venue has been tightened, with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and National Police Service maintaining order. The atmosphere remains solemn but filled with pride as Kenyans from all walks of life pay their last respects to the man many fondly called Baba.
President William Ruto is expected to arrive shortly to join dignitaries, political leaders, and foreign guests for the service, which will celebrate Raila Odinga’s lifelong dedication to democracy, justice, and national unity.
The service will be led by Bishop David Kobia.
Raila’s body arrived yesterday in Kisumu Airport at 7:20 am and letter airlifted to Mamboleo grounds for public viewing.
It was in the evening airlifted to his Bondo home for an overnight stay.
He will be buried later today in a private ceremony.
