The Odinga family and the nation are mourning the unexpected death of Beryl Achieng Odinga, daughter of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga.

She died at the Nairobi West Hospital Tuesday November 25, 2205 where she had been admitted. She had been sick for long and even never attended the funeral for her late brother Raila Odinga who died on October 15, 2025.

Beryl, known for leading a private life away from the political limelight, passed away suddenly, leaving behind her three children Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taure.

Her body was moved to the mortuary Tuesday pending other procedures.

A woman of many dimensions, Beryl was the sister of key political figures including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Senator Oburu Oginga, Akinyi Wenwai, and Kisumu Senator Ruth Odinga Busia. She was also sister-in-law to Dr. Anne Oburu, Dr. Canon Ida Odinga, Hon. Tabu Osewe, and Judy Oburu.

Although she avoided the public eye, Beryl’s life was marked by professional achievement and quiet influence.

According to reports, she worked as both a teacher and a lawyer.

She once revealed that she deliberately shunned politics to build her own path, despite being part of Kenya’s most prominent political family.

Her death has elicited deep sadness and reflection among her siblings.

In a statement, Ruth Odinga expressed profound grief but also stated, “we take solace in the belief that she is safe in the Lord’s arms and are thankful for the invaluable gift of the time we were privileged to share with her and for the profound impact she had on all who knew her.”

Obituary experts note the importance of accurately documenting someone’s legacy—especially in the wake of a sudden loss. As a story deeply rooted in public interest, news outlets are likely to adopt an inverted-pyramid structure—leading with the facts, then delving into Beryl’s life and relationships.

Beryl Achieng Odinga’s life, though lived with restraint, intersected significantly with Kenyan political history.

As the country awaits funeral details, tributes are already pouring in from family, friends, and political figures, all underscoring her quiet dignity and the legacy she leaves behind.
