Soprano, whose real name is Saïd M’Roumbaba, is a French rapper, singer-songwriter, and television personality of Comorian descent.

Born on January 14, 1979, in Marseille, France, he has become one of the most influential figures in French hip-hop.

Raised in a Muslim household, Soprano first gained prominence as a member of the rap group Psy 4 de la Rime before establishing a highly successful solo career that has spanned multiple diamond-certified albums and television appearances as a coach on The Voice franchise.

    Siblings

Soprano has four siblings, namely Diego Moltissanti, Zakaria M’Roumbaba, Naïma M’Roumbaba, Sakina M’Roumbaba

The siblings grew up in Marseille as part of a Comorian immigrant family, where his father Omar worked as a handyman on oil tankers and his mother Zahra served as a housekeeper.

    Career

Soprano’s career began in the late 1990s when he joined Psy 4 de la Rime, a group formed with his cousins and a childhood friend.

The collective released albums such as Block Party and built a strong local following in Marseille before Soprano pursued solo work.

His debut solo album, Puisqu’il Faut Vivre, dropped in 2007 while he was still with the group and achieved significant success, entering the Billboard European Top 100 and selling over 200,000 copies.

He fully transitioned to a solo path after the group’s activities slowed, releasing La Colombe in 2010, which topped French charts and earned gold certification.

Subsequent albums like Le Corbeau (2011), Cosmopolitanie (2014), L’Everest (2016), Phœnix (2018), Chasseur d’étoiles (2021), and Freedom (2024) demonstrated his evolution toward more introspective and crossover sounds, many achieving diamond status with hundreds of thousands of sales.

Beyond music, Soprano has acted, participated in projects like 13 Organisé, and served as a coach on The Voice – La plus belle voix and The Voice Kids, showcasing his charismatic personality and vocal versatility.

    Accolades

In 2008, Soprano was named Best Artist of the Year at a classical music ceremony event, with Puisqu’il Faut Vivre honored as Best Album and the track “À la bien” as Best Song.

Several of his solo albums have reached diamond certification in France, including Cosmopolitanie (over 500,000 sales), L’Everest (around 800,000 by 2018), and Phœnix (over 585,000 by 2019).

He has received nominations at the NRJ Music Awards, including for French-speaking group or duo collaborations.
