    Rise to fame

Born Ronald David Wood on June 1, 1947, in Middlesex, England, Wood grew up in a musical and artistic household. By the age of 10, he was already performing live, and as a teenager, he launched his professional music career with the band The Birds.

He later joined the Jeff Beck Group—initially as a bassist—before achieving major success with Faces alongside Rod Stewart. Faces became one of the most popular live acts of the early 1970s, cementing Wood’s reputation as a versatile and energetic performer.

    Joining the Rolling Stones

Wood’s career reached new heights when he replaced Mick Taylor as lead guitarist for The Rolling Stones in 1975. Initially brought in as a touring musician, he soon became a permanent fixture in the band.

With bandmates including Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Wood contributed to numerous albums and world tours, helping sustain the band’s global dominance for decades.

Although he was not made a full financial partner in the band until 1990—having previously been paid a salary—his long-standing role in one of the highest-grossing touring acts in music history has been a major driver of his wealth.

    Solo career

Beyond his work with The Rolling Stones, Wood has released several solo albums showcasing his skills as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. His music blends rock, blues, and R&B influences, reflecting the styles that shaped his early career.

In addition to music, Wood is an accomplished visual artist. His paintings and drawings have been exhibited internationally, adding another dimension to his creative portfolio and income streams.

    Personal challenges

Wood’s journey has not been without challenges. He has been open about his long struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, entering rehabilitation multiple times over the years. Despite these setbacks, he has maintained his place in the music industry and continued performing.

In 2017, he was diagnosed with lung cancer but made a full recovery following surgery, further underscoring his resilience.

    Personal life

Wood is a father of six and has experienced several high-profile relationships. In 2012, he married Sally Humphreys, and the couple welcomed twin daughters in 2016.
