Deputy President William Ruto has never consented to premature political canvassing, his communications secretary David Mugonyi has said.
In a statement, the DP has denied campaigning in preparation for 2022 presidential elections as is purported by certain individuals who claim to be mobilising support on his behalf.
“At no time has the Deputy President approved, canvassed or engaged in any other form of preparation for a presidential or other campaign after the last Presidential Election.
Secondly, he does not, and has never approved, consented to or supported haphazard, sketchy, messy, premature political canvassing,” Mugonyi said.
Ruto, he said, believes in campaigning at the right time in an organised, systematic manner, that gives candidates the opportunity to have quality engagement with the people within a political party and based on issues and policies.
Mugonyi also noted that in the meantime, he (Ruto) is concentrating on supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta as he seeks to realize the Big Four Development Agenda in his final term.
“At the moment, he is working to support the President to ensure that Jubilee’s transformational agenda, especially the Big 4, is fully realized in every part of the country,” he added.
Ruto has also asked his detractors to leave his name out of their “shenanigans.”
“The Deputy President therefore asks those running noisy charades and mock-campaigns to use their energy more productively while those funding the same to find better use for their resources.”

There are plans however to block the DP from ascending to power come 2022 with former Jubilee party vice chair David Murathe planning to take the fight all the way to the apex court.
Murathe has asked Ruto to retire together with Uhuru but has maintained that the latter can still run for the Deputy Presidency.
The head of state has asked politicians to shun 2022 politics and instead focus on development.
