Deputy President William Ruto and his Rift Valley political rival Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Saturday extended a handshake during Jonathan Moi’s funeral service.

Ruto, who arrived at the service held at Kabarak University, was seen shaking hands with Gideon before he too his seat.

In what is referred to as a rare show, the two shared the same platform during the ceremony that attracted thousands of mourners.

Gideon, however, did not stand up when DP Ruto went shook his hand, which is contrary to his action when Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka arrived.

The Baringo senator could be seen standing up to greet Kalonzo before they took up their seats.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his political mentor, Daniel arap Moi, however, failed to show at the mass.

According to family sources, Mzee Moi, 95, could not make it to his son’s funeral service.

However, Mzee Moi’s tribute to the son was delivered by Gideon during the service.

In heartfelt words, Moi revealed that from a tender age, Jonathan was a down to earth and a hardworking person adding that his love for farming and rally competitions surprised him.

Additionally, Mzee expressed that he felt so much sorrow that his son died ahead of him but explained that it was all part of God’s planning and that it should be enough proof that material things are not all that important.

“Fathers shouldn’t bury their children. A son should never be buried by his father but Jonathan’s death was God’s will. You are the blood of my blood. Stay well son until we meet again

“You were not perfect, but you were my son. Blood of my blood,” Gideon read.

The ceremony was also attended to by Chief Justice David Maraga, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, and CS Eugene Wamalwa.
