President William Ruto described his meeting with U.S. President Donald J. Trump in Washington, D.C. as a “watershed moment” for Kenya–U.S. relations.

He highlighted a series of new agreements spanning health, trade, investment, and regional security.

In a statement issued after the visit, Ruto expressed gratitude on behalf of the Kenyan government and people, praising the “generous hospitality” extended to his delegation and the “clarity of purpose” demonstrated by the Trump administration.

Ruto said the renewed health cooperation framework — which includes strengthening disease surveillance, expanding primary healthcare, and increasing access to modern medical technologies — will significantly accelerate Kenya’s journey toward universal health coverage.

“These commitments will save lives and uplift communities,” he noted.

He also pointed to major advancements in trade and investment discussions, saying both governments are taking decisive steps to expand market access, grow African manufacturing, and support job creation for Kenya’s youth.

He welcomed the U.S. commitment to invest in Kenya’s digital economy, infrastructure, and green transition, describing it as the beginning of “a new era of shared prosperity.”

On regional security, Ruto commended Washington’s continued support for stability in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region.

Talks covered counter-terrorism cooperation, maritime security, and conflict resolution.

“When Kenya and the United States act together, the region becomes more secure, stable, and prosperous,” he said.

Ruto further applauded President Trump’s “personal leadership” in revitalizing the bilateral relationship, vowing that Kenya will move swiftly to implement the commitments reached in Washington.

“We are committed to translating these agreements into real impact for our citizens,” Ruto said, adding that the goal is to make the Kenya–U.S. partnership one of the most consequential on the African continent.

Ruto had also met other officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio where they discussed among others health issues.
