President William Ruto has increased the reward for each Harambee Stars player to Sh2.5 million if they beat Zambia in their upcoming CHAN 2024 Group A match on Sunday.

Harambee Stars currently top Group A with seven points after going unbeaten in three matches — two wins and one draw. On Monday, they defeated Morocco 1-0 despite being reduced to 10 men after a red card.

Speaking after meeting the team, President Ruto praised their unity and performance.

“The Harambee Stars are proof of what unity can achieve. They have brought the country together, and we are all seeing the results. We stand behind you, praying that this time we win CHAN because it’s within our reach,” he said.

The President also confirmed additional rewards if the team progresses further. Each player will receive Sh1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit of their choice if they win their quarter-final match.

Ruto assured Kenyans that his government has honoured its pledge to pay the players for recent performances, adding that motivating the national team remains a priority.

“Kenya is rising. We are conquering arenas where no one thought we could stand, let alone triumph. This is Kenya. We believe. We fight. We rise. Congratulations to our boys — mumecheza kama nyinyi. Sasa nitacheza kama mimi!” he said.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has frozen ticket sales for upcoming matches at Kasarani Stadium following security breaches during Sunday’s clash against Morocco.
