Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has expressed confidence that President William Ruto will secure a free, fair and petition-free victory in the 2027 General Election through the democratic will of Kenyans.
Mudavadi said the Kenya Kwanza campaign team is crafting a strategy to ensure President Ruto’s re-election does not trigger post-election litigation, urging Kenyans to turn out in large numbers and vote for the President’s second term.
He insisted the 2027 election would be conducted transparently and dismissed claims that it would be manipulated.
“When we talk of two terms, let us also emphasise a petition-free win for President Ruto. Election petitions always make the country pull in different directions, creating tension and uncertainty. We have witnessed this since the late President Mwai Kibaki’s second-term victory and in subsequent elections. We want to change that trend,” Mudavadi said.
“We are assembling our campaign team and our strategy is to do everything we can within the democratic confines to ensure Ruto wins.”
Mudavadi said President Ruto’s re-election campaign would be anchored on his administration’s development record, national unity agenda and the implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
He criticised leaders promising to reverse policies introduced by the Kenya Kwanza administration, arguing that doing so would roll back gains made in key sectors.
“When you say you will reverse policies that have led to the employment of more than 76,000 teachers, progress in the affordable housing programme, gains in the health sector, and the construction of roads and markets, what is your agenda for the future of this country?” he posed.
He cited increased funding for education, saying the sector had received a budget allocation of Sh780 billion, while more than 23,000 classrooms had been constructed under President Ruto’s administration.
Mudavadi also highlighted achievements in agriculture, including fertiliser subsidies and increased maize production, accusing critics of ignoring government successes.
“It is hypocrisy to tell Kenyans that President Ruto has done nothing when there are visible gains across various sectors,” he said.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary, who also serves as Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, said Kenya’s foreign exchange reserves had grown significantly, providing the country with an import cover of about six months.
He argued that the stronger reserves reflected improved economic stability despite global challenges.
Speaking partly in Swahili, Mudavadi said Kenya was in a stronger position to finance imports such as fuel, fertiliser, steel and gas, even amid global economic uncertainty linked to tensions in the Middle East.
Mudavadi also cautioned against leaders whom he accused of promoting division, bitterness and ethnic politics, saying Kenya’s leadership should be founded on unity and service to all citizens.
“We need to ensure that our unity as a country continues to grow. We must reject leaders who seek to divide us. Some wake up talking about tribalism in the morning, continue with tribalism at tea break, lunchtime, supper and even before they sleep, yet they expect Kenyans to elect them. That is unacceptable,” he said.
He challenged the opposition’s confidence about its numerical strength and urged young people to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“I keep hearing them say, ‘We have the numbers.’ They do not know what they are talking about. I urge our youth to register in large numbers so that we can meet them at the ballot next year,” he said.
Mudavadi spoke during the Annual Kaimosi Agricultural Research and Training Centre (KARTC) Agricultural Expo in Emgwen, Nandi County, where he launched a Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)-supported curriculum and commissioned new student hostels.
He also pledged that the government would prioritise the expansion and rehabilitation of the Eldoret–Chavakali road, alongside other feeder roads linking Nandi, Vihiga and Kakamega counties.
“Shared resources and greater regional integration will benefit our people. That is our roadmap for the future with the support of President Ruto,” he said.
