    Leading mobile services operator, Safaricom, has made key changes as the restructuring named Safaricom 2.0 continues. After the problems with the head of marketing who was rendered jobless after all her key functions were withdrawn, the lady (Wangari Murugu) decided to resign from the company. She tendered her resignation almost two weeks ago.

    Now Safaricom CEO, Bob Collymore, has made Rita Okuthe who was formerly the head of Consumer Propositions, the new Head of Marketing division. The email to Safaricom staff announcing the changed reads;

    It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Rita Okuthe as Head of Marketing Division with effect from 1st October 2012.
    She will report directly to me as part of the Executive Committee.

    Rita has been acting as Head of Marketing and also undertaking her role as Head of Consumer Propositions for the last few months. Before joining  Safaricom, she held several marketing roles, including Head of Marketing at MTN Uganda.

    Rita has several years work experience in advertising and brand management and has successfully managed brands at all stages; from infancy to maturity in both monopolistic and highly competitive environments. In this role, she will be responsible for driving the divisions strategy to deliver on key business goals.

    As Head of Consumer Propositions, Rita has over the years proven to be invaluable in driving voice revenues through her great understanding of our consumer behaviours. I believe that she will continue to deliver great value and strengthen our brand and positioning in the market.

    Please join me in congratulating Rita on this fine achievement. We wish her success as she takes up this appointment.

    Safaricom CEO has also created a new department within the Consumer Business Unit. Now Morris Maina who was formerly the head of Retail Sales will now head the new department called  Internet and Content Department.

    A statement from Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore to the staff regarding the appointment of Morris Maina partly reads;

    He will be responsible for strategy development and execution aimed at growing targeted content revenue in the market. This appointment takes effect 1st October 2012.

    Morris has been replaced by Janet Atika who joined Safaricom in 2000 and was formerly the head of Retail Support.

    All the changes takes effect immediately.
