Students at Africa Nazarene University in Ongata Rongai have received practical training on digital literacy and content monetisation, as Safaricom intensified efforts to position young people for opportunities in the digital economy.

The training, held on Saturday, was part of the Hook’d on Fresh youth masterclass series delivered by Safaricom through its youth platform Safaricom Hook, in partnership with beverage brand Sprite.

The session brought together industry players who equipped students with hands-on skills on how to create content, grow online audiences, and convert digital platforms into sustainable sources of income.

Participants were also taken through financial literacy lessons, including saving and investing, aimed at helping young creators build long-term financial stability from their digital earnings.

Lifestyle content creator Carrie Wahu and dance creator Tileh Pacbro led discussions on navigating the creator economy, sharing practical insights on building personal brands and leveraging social media platforms for income generation.

Safaricom’s Wealth Management representative Alexander Matheka introduced students to the Ziidi Money Market Fund platform, encouraging them to adopt disciplined saving and investment habits early.

Safaricom Chief Consumer Business Officer Fawzia Ali Kimanthi said the initiative is designed to empower young people to turn their creativity into viable livelihoods.

“Content creation has become such a big deal for young people, and it is only fair that we support them and become the enablers through our platforms, helping them convert what they do into a source of livelihood,” she said.

The Hook’d on Fresh campaign is a digital influencer-led programme that seeks to equip Kenyan youth with the tools, skills, and inspiration needed to thrive in the fast-growing digital content economy.

The Africa Nazarene University engagement follows a similar activation in Eldoret, where more than 300 students participated in the masterclass and gained exposure to digital tools and industry insights.

The initiative reflects a broader collaboration between Safaricom and Sprite to support Kenya’s creative generation by combining connectivity and culture; key drivers of success in today’s digital landscape.

Beyond content creation, the programme integrates financial literacy training, positioning young people to better navigate income opportunities in the digital space while building sustainable wealth.
