Veteran television personality Sam Champion has revealed he underwent emergency heart surgery, sharing details of his hospitalization with fans.

The 64-year-old Good Morning America weatherman posted a photo from his hospital bed on Sunday, showing himself connected to medical equipment following the procedure.

Champion said the surgery took place at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital, where he thanked doctors and nurses for their care.

“Many of you know I had a nuclear stress test last Thursday,” he explained. “We found some things that needed to be taken care of, so today I went into the cardiac catheterization laboratory… and we took care of it.”

He reassured fans that he is recovering well and is expected to make a full recovery.

In a follow-up post on his Instagram Stories, Champion shared another image from his hospital bed, writing: “After: a little work then back to normal.”

Support quickly poured in from colleagues and loved ones. His husband, Rubem Robierb, expressed his love in the comments, to which Champion replied warmly.

Fellow broadcaster Robin Roberts also offered support, telling him she was available if he needed anything, while “Today” show meteorologist Al Roker sent well wishes for a speedy recovery.

Champion has previously been open about his health. In October 2024, he revealed on-air that he had battled skin cancer, further highlighting his journey with medical challenges.
