    Exposed: Scandals Rocking Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority Under John Mwaka’s Leadership

    The CEO of the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) John Mwaka has been linked to scandals rocking  the organization including misapropriation of funds.

    Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi had exposed Mwaka who as an officer had  been relieved from his duties after allegedly collecting a bribe from Imarika sacco.

    He was later reinstated and appointed as the acting CEO when SASRA was formed in 2008.  Mwaka later employed commissioner Mary Mungai’s son to the IT department since she had pushed for his appointment as CEO.

    Mungai also has all her expenses paid by SASRA when she travels to the US to visit her child between the months of July and August every year.

    Mwaka is said to have spent close to Sh170 million to partitioning his new office in Upper hill at the UAP towers. The tender was awarded to former director Kinyua who was  proposed by Ms Mary Mungai and the CEO Mwaka through a proxy company.

    Director Kinyua and Ms Mungai ensured that that Mwaka was appointed the CEO through the help of CS Adan Mohamed’s personal assistant.

    SASRA’s Human Resource manager, Boniface Musumbi and the procurement manager Diana Mwacharo who purchased property in a span of one year. This two ensure that the CEO goes to 10 international trips a year.

    The procurement Manager Mwacharo who has a corruption case in the IEBC is said to have awarded her husband with 90% of the tenders in SASRA through a proxy company.

    It is alleged that the auditors who audit the organization because most of them are listed as suppliers to SASRA. They are also on the CEO’s payroll to keep the scandals in the organisation under wraps and away from investigation.
