Three high school students who were allegedly abducted by a boda boda rider from Rise and Shine Academy in Nyali, Mombasa are set to undergo a psychiatric assessment.

According to reports, the girls, who were found on Saturday evening after being missing since Wednesday last week, started speaking incomprehensibly.

One of the parents noted that the minors were taken to Coast General Hospital for the mental tests.

“We are in the public hospital for further tests. On Saturday they were brought in to be examined to establish whether they were sexually abused and we are still waiting for the results.

“But today they will undergo psychiatric evaluation because they were speaking incomprehensibly…we cannot not understand what they are saying,” said one of the parents.

According to the girls, the 14-year olds were taken from school by the rider and taken to a house in Kwa Bulo, an insecure slum in Nyali where the rate of crime rates are high.

Early reports that the three girls were abducted were later disputed by the principal who asserted that the students sneaked out of school.

“They just sneaked out while the watchmen were guarding this institution. I reported the matter to the relevant authorities who are handling it. I am also surprised because they are among the brightest pupils,” the principal told Nation.

However, his sentiments were contradicted by the girls’ colleagues who revealed that the three had asked the guard to allow then to go purchase viazi karai (deep fried potatoes).

The students would later not show up until on Saturday evening.

The suspected rider, Mr Wilson Katana, affirmed that the girls walked out of the school willingly and he did not abduct them as reported.

“I did not abduct them, they called me to pick them from school on Wednesday evening and I ferried them to my house. The three girls and others form the institution are my friends and frequent customers,” he told Kisauni sub-county boss Christopher Limo.

The girls were found on Saturday bodaboda riders in Makueni, Kilifi County.
