A large-scale search and rescue operation is currently underway for a family of four who went missing in Tsavo East National Park.

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has mobilized two fixed-wing aircraft, a helicopter, and three Land Cruisers in an effort to locate the missing parents and their two children, who were expected to exit the park but failed to do so as scheduled.

According to a statement from KWS on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the family entered the park on Saturday through the Manyani Gate.

One of their friends, through a search notice, said the four had a HILUX with a canopy, rooftop tent, and orange sand ladders.

They planned to camp for two nights at Luggards Falls Special Campsite and were expected to leave the park through the Sala Gate on Monday.

When park authorities realized that the family had not exited by 8:00 PM on Monday, they immediately launched a ground search along the route from Luggards Falls to Sala Gate.

The operation has since expanded to include aerial support as the search efforts continue.

“The operation expanded overnight to include aerial support, with efforts still ongoing. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops,” the statement reads.

Reports indicate that they have been found safe.
