Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has expressed optimism that today’s voting will be a successful exercise.

Speaking to the press just after voting at Kamukuywa ACK Primary School in Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, Mr Lusaka said he was impressed by the turnout of the people who sought to exercise their democratic right.

“I am glad the exercise is running peacefully. I applaud the people of Bungoma and Kenya at large for upholding the tenets of our constitution. To those who wouldn’t want to vote, it is their democratic right, too, and we must respect it,” he said.

According to the Speaker, Kenyans need to put the interest of the country at heart in whatever they do. “Before doing anything, we should as Kenyans ask ourselves of what public value is this. That way, we will move forward together as a nation.

IEBC says the exercise has been peaceful so far in Bungoma, an assertion that was supported by Sirisia MP John Waluke, Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, Webuye East MP Alfred Sambu, Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa and Mt Elgon’s Fred Kapondi.

Mr Lusaka was accompanied by several Bungoma leaders and residents.
