Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has officially lost her seat in the Senate after Speaker Amason Kingi declared the position vacant through a gazette notice dated May 21, 2025.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that pursuant to Article 101 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya, a seat of the Member of the Senate elected under Article 98 (1) (b) of the Constitution, held by Senator Gloria Orwoba, has become vacant with effect from the 21st May, 2025,” read the notice.

This comes days after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) expelled Orwoba from the party, accusing her of going against party values and showing disloyalty.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, in a statement issued on Monday, May 19, confirmed the party had removed Orwoba after a disciplinary process. The decision was made by the party’s Disciplinary Committee and later approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

“Senator Gloria Orwoba is no longer a member of the UDA Party. She has lost all privileges of membership and cannot represent or speak on behalf of the party in any way,” said Omar.

He added that the party had written to the Speaker of the Senate asking for her removal, and also notified the Registrar of Political Parties and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

UDA has nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency in Bungoma County to replace Orwoba in the Senate.

“Based on our party list submitted before the 2022 General Election, Mrs. Consolata Wabwire has been nominated to fill the vacancy,” Omar stated.

Orwoba’s expulsion followed a series of public actions that reportedly angered party officials. On April 17, she was seen at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport welcoming back former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i. She also attended his homecoming rally at Gusii Stadium on May 2.
