Kenyans working in the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) passenger train are working without contracts.
The more than 200 Kenyans have been working for the past few months without any form of legal protection or medical covers.
One employee told Kenyans that they haven’t been handed contracts and should any harm come their way while working, they would have to pay for it themselves.

According to the employee, they are on a six month probation period and were promised improved terms after the said period elapsed.
But according to Atanas Maina, Kenya Railways Managing Director, there were complications in the contracts because the Chinese had asked for more time to work on the terms.
As Kenyans wallow in poverty, the government has imported Chinese work force including sweepers.The government has apparently signed a deal with the Chinese to have 400 of its nationals work in the Standard Gauge Railway.
