Shan Masood Khan is a Pakistani international cricketer born on 14 October 1989 in Kuwait City, Kuwait.
He is a left-handed opening batsman and occasional right-arm medium-fast bowler. He is known for his technically sound batting style and resilience in red-ball cricket.
His family returned to Pakistan and settled in Karachi after the Gulf War. He later studied at Stamford School in Lincolnshire, England.
He pursued education in economics and management and sports sciences at universities including Durham and Loughborough.
His father, Mansoor Masood Khan, is a professional banker who played hockey at the provincial level.
Mansoor Masood Khan later served on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s governing board. His paternal uncle, Waqar Masood Khan, held senior government positions, including federal finance secretary.
Siblings
Shan is the second of three siblings. He has a younger brother named Ali Masood, who works as a barrister.
The brothers have shared a close upbringing marked by mutual support. His elder sister was Mishal Hameeda Khan.
She suffered from a rare chromosome disorder that affected her mental development while her physical growth remained normal
The condition left her with the developmental level of a young child even into adulthood. She passed away on 3 October 2021 at the age of 35.
Career
Masood began his first-class career in the 2007–08 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy for Karachi sides. He scored a half-century on debut in a substantial opening partnership.
He progressed through junior and domestic cricket in Pakistan.

He represented teams such as Southern Punjab. He also played in the Pakistan Super League for sides including Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings.
He took on captaincy roles during his domestic and franchise career.
In England, he attended school and later played county cricket for teams including Derbyshire and Yorkshire.
He captained Yorkshire in 2023. He made his Test debut for Pakistan on 14 October 2013 against South Africa in Abu Dhabi.
He scored 75 in the first innings against a strong bowling attack. His ODI debut came in 2019 against Australia.
His T20I debut followed in 2022 against England.
Over the years, he has been in and out of the national side. He has remained a consistent presence in Test cricket.
He has accumulated thousands of runs across formats.
In November 2023, he was appointed Pakistan’s Test captain. He led the side in series against opponents including Australia, Bangladesh, and England.
He has also contributed in limited-overs cricket. He continued to perform strongly in first-class cricket, surpassing major run milestones.
In later years, he took on an administrative role with the Pakistan Cricket Board as a consultant for international cricket and players’ affairs.

Masood has scored multiple Test centuries. His notable Test hundreds have come against teams including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and England.
He has reached significant milestones such as 1,000 and 2,000 Test runs.
He became one of the Pakistani captains to score a Test hundred while leading the side.
In county cricket, he produced standout seasons with Derbyshire. He scored consecutive double centuries for Derbyshire in 2022.
He also recorded strong overall aggregates that ranked highly in the County Championship. He has received Player of the Month recognition in domestic circuits.
He was also selected in dream teams for certain leagues.
Under his captaincy, Pakistan achieved a home Test series win against England. Domestically and in first-class cricket, he has accumulated over 13,000 runs with dozens of centuries.
