A sombre mood engulfed residents of Kware in Embakasi, Nairobi, after the body of a three-year-old girl who had been reported missing was discovered dumped in a dustbin.

A suspect who had sent a message to the girl’s parents demanding a Sh20,000 ransom was later arrested over the murder. He will face charges in court, police said.

According to police at Kware Police Station, the gruesome discovery was made on April 3, 2026, at around noon by a cleaner working on the ground floor of a residential building.

The worker reportedly noticed a suspicious grey manilla bag inside a blue 200-litre dustbin.

Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain the body of a young child.

Police visited and secured the scene and revealed preliminary findings established that the body belonged to a female child, estimated to be about three years old.

The child had been wrapped in a carrier bag and placed in the dustbin.

She was found half-naked, with fresh blood reportedly oozing from her nose.

Further investigations later confirmed that the child had earlier been reported missing. Her mother positively identified the body and the one who had been reported missing on April 2, 2026.

Crime scene personnel from Embakasi processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, with calls for swift justice for the minor.

Elsewhere, police in Kayole, Nairobi, launched investigations following the discovery of a man’s body at Kaniu Drive Shopping Arcade in Mihang’o.

The incident was reported on April 3, 2026, at around 3:20 p.m.

The deceased was identified as Charles Mugambi Michuki, a resident of Karagita. Preliminary investigations indicate that he had spent the previous night at a local bar until around 11:00 p.m. After the establishment closed, he is believed to have slept on benches at the parking area.

His body was later found at the scene with visible bruises on the torso and bleeding from the back of the head, raising suspicion over the circumstances leading to his death.

Police processed and documented the scene before moving the body to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish whether foul play was involved.
