Mike Sonko, Nairobi County Governor on Saturday unceremoniously interrupted Deputy President William Ruto’s speech during this year’s National Tree Planting day at the Moi Forces Academy.

Governor Mike Sonko felt disrespected after Environment CS, Keriako Tobiko invited the DP to make his remarks. According to the program, he (Sonko) was supposed to go first, right after the national anthem.

“I think the State House programme is very clear. After the National Anthem, the Nairobi County Governor is supposed to speak. I was supposed to invite the Environment CS, Keriako Tobiko who would then invite the DP,” Sonko lamented.

Not one to mince his words, Governor Sonko said that other leaders should respect him and stop undermining him.

“A little respect will not harm anyone,” he said, adding that the Nairobi County Government was yet to be disbanded.

Sonko has been under immense pressure to clean up the city that is now flooded, has impassable roads.

On Thursday, Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to disband Governor Sonko’s government which he stated, was ‘functionally dead.’

On Wednesday, Secretary-General of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Dr Mukhisa Kituyi also weighed in on the matter saying that Sonko was not fit to lead the capital city.

“I thought Peter Kenneth was very good to be governor for Nairobi and nothing has happened since the election period that has proven me wrong,” he told the JKL show.
