Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, on Tuesday, assured County workers that he would see to it that their salaries are increased as stipulated and agreed upon in the 2017 Collective Bargain Agreement.

Speaking to the media, addressing the workers’ concerns, Sonko affirmed that his government will work together with the relevant authorities to ensure that the CBA is implemented.

He spoke hours after the employees down their tools demanding for the implementation of a 15% pay rise as was agreed on in the 2017 CBA.

Sonko also revealed that the relevant authorizes will be meeting in Mombasa and he will ensure that the stakeholders discuss the salary increment issue.

The workers sought to have the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to allow the county government to implement the CBA.

In November last year, the Industrial Court , through Judge Nelson Abwodha, ruled that the CBA ought to be honored by the SRC.

The workers were also expressing their displeasure to the SRC for agreeing with the CBA yet disregard the curt ruling.

According to the Youth Representative in the Kenya County Workers Union, Collins Konyokie Nkoitoi, the SRC has always been their biggest hurdle to agree on any implementation of the CBA.

Besides the cry of the workers, Association of Public Health workers Secretary General Brown Ashira demanded job promotion and salary for the workers claiming the last time they were promoted over a decade ago.
