Nairobi County Devolution CEC Vesca Kangogo was on Tuesday suspended for taking a trip to the United States even after the governor, Mike Sonko advised her against it.
County Secretary Peter Kariuki in a letter dated June 5 sent Ms Kangogo on compulsory leave for insubordination.
“It has come to the attention of this office that you traveled to the United States of America on 1st June 2018 having received express instructions from H.E the Governor not to proceed with the trip prior to departure,” he noted.
The CEC who was transferred from the Finance and Economic Planning docket during a recent Cabinet reshuffle was asked to step aside pending investigations.
“Your failure to obey lawful instruction from your appointing authority is tantamount to insubordination and therefore, you are hereby directed to step aside from your duties and responsibilities.”

She was however asked to give a ‘satisfactory response’ within seven days on why she went against the governor.
In Kiambu county, Governor Ferdinand Waititu in May sacked the county’s Water, Environment and Natural Resources CEC John Mugwe who he said is a ‘Facebook addict.’
“Therefore, within the powers set out in Section 31(a) of the County Government Act, 2012, I hereby relieve you of your responsibilities as a CEC and from any other portfolio which you may be holding.”
