Journalist Larry Madowo, who is currently on holiday in Europe had a rare opportunity to attend one of the biggest football match up in the English Premier league.

He took to social media to show his ticket to the Arsenal vs. Liverpool game. No one would have expected the journalist who lives life over the top to have done nothing less than purchased the costly ticket.

CEO of betting company SportPesa saw the ticket being posted on social media and told Larry Madowo that he should also have shared that he was attending the game courtesy of the sport betting company which the journalist had failed to indicate when posting the ticket.

Arsenal 🙌🏽 Alafu uambie watu ‘tickets courtesy of SportPesa’ 👍🏾

    — Hon Captain Ronald Karauri (@KarauriR) December 22, 2017

The journalist who seemed to be good friends with the CEO Donald Karauri downplayed the comment but later responded to it saying that January is around the corner and he would not be expected to buy a ticket costing Sh. 22316. Therefore suggesting that Sportpesa might have actually bought him the ticket.

Of course! Njaanuary inakam. I can’t afford Club Level tickets worth Ksh22,316 🤣 https://t.co/7AYIhUXs0K

    — Larry Madowo (@LarryMadowo) December 23, 2017

If the ticket was indeed bought by the betting company Larry Madowo should have at least acknowledged it as companies usually extend such courtesy to celebrities as a marketing strategy for their brands but maybe the journalist was just a random winner of a ticket to watch the game or Donald Karauri was just joking and the media personality might have just bought the ticket.

Nation media group has been championing against journalists receiving the brown envelope to kill or promote stories. Larry Madowo might have been between a rock and a hard place because he is not allowed to promote brands unless in the line of duty.

Receiving such treats from brands might the new way for journalist to receive bribes. Whether or not this is the trend is yet to be discovered .
