Stephanie-Elise Catley, commonly known as Steph Catley, is an Australian professional footballer who plays as a left-back or centre-back for Arsenal in the Women’s Super League and represents the Australia national team, the Matildas.
Born on 26 January 1994 in Melbourne, Victoria, she is widely regarded as one of the world’s top defenders, known for her versatility, leadership, and consistency at both club and international levels.
With over 140 caps for Australia, she has become a cornerstone of the Matildas’ defence and a key figure in Arsenal’s backline.
Siblings
Steph grew up in Melbourne with her older brother Daniel Catley.
She began playing football at the age of six, joining her brother’s team at East Bentleigh Soccer Club as the only girl in the squad.
Daniel, a football enthusiast who has worked as a designer, remains part of her supportive family alongside their parents Lesley and Stephen.

Career
Catley made her senior debut for Melbourne Victory at just 15 years old in 2009.
She quickly established herself in the Australian W-League, captaining the side and winning multiple titles during loan spells with Melbourne City.
Her international career began in 2012, and she has since featured in numerous major tournaments, including multiple FIFA Women’s World Cups and Olympic Games.
After stints in the NWSL with Portland Thorns, Orlando Pride, and Reign FC, she joined Arsenal in 2020.
