Actor Darrell Sheets, known for his role in the TV programme Storage Wars, has died aged 67, according to reports citing Lake Havasu City Police Department. Officers were called to a residence in Arizona at 02:00 local time (10:00 BST) on 22 April, where they found what would later be identified as the 67-year-old’s body.

In a statement on Wednesday, quoted by Variety, Lake Havasu police said Sheets had “suffered from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head”.

Sheets was well known for his role in the Storage Wars reality show, a programme where participants buy storage units being auctioned without seeing what is inside them first.

One of his co-stars, TV personality Rene Nezhoda, paid tribute to Sheets, saying it had been “an honour to share the stage with you over the last 15 years”.

“I know a lot of you guys think we hated each other, because we competed a lot on the show,” Nezhoda said in a video shared on X, adding: “Deep down me and Darrell were friends, we talked every now and then.”

Nezhoda praised Sheets’s work ethic and said he “cared more than anyone I’ve probably ever met about their family”.

Known as “the Gambler”, Sheets starred in Storage Wars between 2010 and 2023. He appeared alongside his son Brandon several times.

In the police statement quoted by several US media outlets, Lake Havasu City Police Department says Sheets’s family have been notified and the incident “remains under active investigation”.

There are reports that Sheets had been experiencing cyberbullying. Nezhoda voiced these concerns in his video tribute.

“He had a guy really, really, tormenting him lately on cyberbullying.

“Guys, just because you watch us on television doesn’t mean you know us. It doesn’t mean you know what we’re about. Also, it doesn’t entitle you to bully somebody … you shouldn’t cyberbully at all”.

Nezhoda also called on law enforcement to “look into that guy” following Sheets’s death.
