A police officer sustained a serious bite wound while arresting a suspect in Kendu Bay, Homa Bay County.

Police said the officer had received a call from locals that they had arrested a suspect wanted for various crimes.

It emerged the suspect identified as Peter Otieno alias Jakotieno had warrants to arrest him after skipping court sessions.

Locals were aware of the issue and had spotted the suspect before detaining him in drama, police said.

The officer and two other colleagues responded to the scene about a kilometer away and found the suspect had been subdued and tied with a sisal rope.

The locals had threatened to lynch him then in the July 20 drama.

As the officers took hold of him ready to lead him to the station for further processing, he turned violent and bite one of the policeman’s left hand middle finger.

The other colleagues rushed to his rescue but by then he was bleeding after sustaining a deep wound.

He was rushed to the hospital where he was treated and discharged.

The suspect was later led to the local police station for processing, police said.

Meanwhile, police recovered a pistol magazine that got lost in the July 7 protests in Narok Town.

Police said a scrap metal dealer in Majengo area found the magazine as he sifted through scrap brought to his yard.

The magazine had 15 live bullets loaded in it by then and were found intact.

The dealer called police with the news of the magazine, and they picked it up for investigations.

Police suspect the magazine was picked up from the streets after it was dropped off during the demos and later taken to the yard.

The demonstrations, among others, happened in Narok Town.
