Tage Thompson is an American professional ice hockey player who serves as a center and alternate captain for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League.
Born on October 30, 1997, in Phoenix, Arizona, Thompson stands at 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs around 220 pounds, giving him a commanding physical presence on the ice.
He is known for his scoring ability, size, and skill as a forward, having developed into one of the Sabres’ cornerstone players after a breakout period in the early 2020s.

His father, Brent Thompson, is a former NHL defenseman who played 121 games in the league with teams including the Los Angeles Kings, Winnipeg Jets, and Phoenix Coyotes before transitioning into a long coaching career that has included stints in the AHL and NHL.
Thompson has one younger brother, Tyce Thompson, who is also a professional hockey player.
Tyce, a forward, had a brief NHL stint with the New Jersey Devils, including a memorable debut in April 2021 where he faced off against Tage on the ice.

Career
Thompson’s career began with a hockey upbringing marked by frequent moves as his family followed Brent’s professional path.
He played for the United States National Team Development Program before committing to the University of Connecticut Huskies, where he spent two seasons and emerged as the highest-drafted player in program history.
In 2016, the St. Louis Blues selected him 26th overall in the NHL Entry Draft.
Thompson made his NHL debut with the Blues during the 2017-18 season after time in the AHL.
On July 1, 2018, the Blues traded him to the Buffalo Sabres in a deal centered around Ryan O’Reilly.
Early years with Buffalo showed steady but unspectacular production, but Thompson exploded in the 2021-22 season with 38 goals and 68 points in 78 games.
He built on that momentum in 2022-23, posting career highs of 47 goals and 94 points while leading the Sabres in scoring and earning his first NHL All-Star Game selection.
Thompson signed a seven-year, $50 million contract extension with Buffalo in 2022.
Over his career through the 2025-26 season, he has appeared in more than 500 NHL games, accumulating over 400 points with strong even-strength scoring and power-play contributions.
