Sylvia Mulinge, the new Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania is yet to start working in her new position after the Tanzanian immigration department failed to produce her work permit four months after her appointment.
Her appointment would only be effective after the work permit was processed.
The firm said that Sylvia Mulinge applied for the work permit in May and is yet to receive a response from the immigration department.
Last week the Tanzanian immigration department released more than 400 work permits but Sylvia Mullinge’s application was not among those issued.
Vodacom maintains that the used the correct procedures and channels to apply for the same, The company’s PLC chairman Ali Mufuruki said that Hisham Hendi, the commercial director was heading the company in acting capacity and that there was no impact but hoped that the work permit issue would be resolved before it affects future performance.
“The pending work permit has no impact on business operations and we hope to know the outcome as soon as possible so it does not affect future performance,” Mr Mufuruki told the East African.
Mr. Mufuruki however stated that the time period for work permits varied but was confident that the response would be released soon.
The 41 year old Kenyan citizen is still in Kenya as she waits for the work permit to be released.
She was the director of the consumer business unit at Safaricom and was to assume her new office on June 1.

Safaricom refused to divulge her employment status in the company currently as she was still in the country.
