A 19-year-old man was electrocuted in a tragic incident in a house as he washed his clothes in Kogony, Kisumu County.

Police and Kenya Power officials said Brian Omollo was washing his clothes when he touched a live naked wire.

He died on the spot. Police said they suspect the power had been illegally connected to the area. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures following the January 28 incident.

And two people drowned in two separate incidents.

The first incident was reported in the Mbumbuni area, Makueni County where one Mumo Mbithi, 21 drowned in Kwa Mathee Earth Dam.

His clothes were found on the banks of the dam long after he had died. The circumstances under which the incident happened were not clear, police said as they removed the body to the mortuary pending investigations.

In Miwani area, Kisumu County, a body of one Naman Opole, 20 was found in a swampy area after suspected drowning at an irrigation scheme.

It was established the man was fishing when he was struck by epilepsy. He had an epilepsy history, his relatives said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

And in Athi River, Machakos County, police said a driver and his loader were robbed of 500 bags of rice they were transporting from Mombasa. Each bag contained 25 kilos of rice, police said.

The two were to deliver the cargo to Nairobi when on January 28 were flagged down by men wearing police jungle uniform near Daystar area. The men demanded to inspect what was in the lorry before they grabbed the crew and took control of the lorry to a thicket near where another vehicle was waiting.

The crew told police the men tied their hands and legs and ordered them to lie down as another group offloaded the rice onto a waiting vehicle.

They then drove off with both vehicles and the rise to an unknown destination. The crew managed to untie themselves and reported the matter after the 2 am incident.

Police said they were investigating the incident which is the latest in a series on the route.
