Detectives are investigating separate incidents where suspected thieves broke into two churches and stole property in Kiganjo area, Nyeri County.

The incidents happened at the PCEA Ndurutu Church and their neighboring Catholic Church on November 5, police said.

Managers at the churches said they had on Sunday November 2 closed the facilities after their services. When they went back on November 4, they found them broken into and property stolen.

At the PCEA Ndurutu Church the musician there established the thieves had stolen an amplifier, a mixer, a piano and an alter cover. The gang had gained entry through a perimeter wall near the main gate.

At the Catholic Church, they broke in by cutting the padlock and the door panel and stole two alter covers red in color, four alter boys’ clothes, two red and two purple and an electric kettle.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

Elsewhere in Tala, Machakos County, escaping thugs dropped a G3 rifle loaded with 19 rounds of ammunition after a failed robbery.

A group of suspected thugs riding on a motorcycle had Thursday dawn tried to break into a shop in the town when an alarm was raised.

Police on patrol responded there prompting the two to drop the rifle and escape on the motorcycle.

Police picked up the weapon for tests and analysis to establish the ownership and if it had been used elsewhere for crimes.

The area has been experiencing a surge in general crime amid efforts to address the trend.

And police in Wamba, Samburu County are pursuing four suspects who escaped from lawful custody.

The suspects were facing robbery with violence charges when they escaped on November 5 night.

A night shift police officer reported he heard noise from the cell holding the suspects after they claimed one of them had collapsed and was unconscious.

Oblivious of their plans, he went to check on the same when they hit him using the door and floored him.

The cell had 15 suspects then but only four escaped. Another officer who was in the armoury heard the commotion and went to check only to find the group escaping. He fired once but the gang managed to escape uninjured, police said identifying them as Lengida Lekila, Joseph Lokolol, Luchan Lesamana all who were facing robbery with violence charges and Jackson Lesurmati who was facing charges of illegal possession of ammunition.

The injured officer was admitted in hospital in a stable condition even as the hunt on the those who escaped goes on.
