Three minors drowned in two separate incidents reported on Saturday in Kakamega and Kisii Counties.

Police said the deceased included two siblings aged three and four.

In Emasatsi, Kakamega County, two young siblings drowned in a home water reservoir as they played there.

The incident happened on May 16, police said.

The children, both girls, were aged three and four.

Police said they were playing in the water pan when they drowned.

The pan was dug to collect water to make bricks for commercial purposes in the area.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

In Marani, Kisii County, a minor aged one year and seven months old drowned in a basin full of water in a tragic incident.

The girl had been left under the care of her grandmother when she drowned while playing with the water. The old woman was attending to other household chores when the incident happened, police said.

A relative found the baby drowned in a 17-liter bucket that had water. The body was moved to the mortuary leaving the family devastated.

Meanwhile, police in Embakasi, Nairobi, shot and injured a suspected robber and arrested another during an early morning operation on Saturday in the Tassia Gate area following reports of a gang terrorising residents.

According to police, police responded to information from members of the public indicating that a group of about seven young men was robbing and threatening people within the neighbourhood.

The officers reportedly moved to the scene and on spotting the police, several members of the gang fled, but two suspects allegedly confronted the officers.

Police said one of the suspects was armed with a pistol while the other carried a Somali sword. The officers ordered them to surrender, but one of the suspects allegedly advanced toward an officer while pointing a firearm at him.

The officer responded by firing from his CMZ rifle, hitting the suspect in the right thigh.

Police described the suspect as a notorious robbery suspect in the area. He was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.

The second suspect was arrested at the scene and placed in police custody.

Crime scene investigators recovered several items believed to have been used by the suspects, including a homemade firearm, a Somali sword, a pair of scissors, a sharpened wooden weapon, three rolls of bhang and a 5.56mm cartridge.

Police said investigations into the incident and the activities of the suspected gang are ongoing.
