Three more suspects have been arrested in Nairobi and Kiambu counties in connection with the vandalism of a Kenya Power transmission tower in Ngubi, Naivasha.
Kenya Power said the latest arrests followed investigations into the vandalism and collapse of transmission tower 1052 along the Naivasha-Juja 132kV double-circuit line.
In a statement on Tuesday, the utility company identified the suspects as James Njenga, Shadrack Mwangi and Ruben Kipkoech Ngetich.
The three were apprehended by Kenya Power’s Central and North Eastern security teams following leads obtained from two suspects arrested on Monday, September 21, 2026.
The suspects were arrested during operations targeting scrap metal yards in Gitaru and Uthiru, where security teams recovered materials belonging to Kenya Power.
Kenya Power said Reginah Githira was also arrested at Rewagi scrap metal workshop in Uthiru while allegedly in possession of vandalised electricity materials belonging to the company.
All the suspects were escorted to Naivasha Police Station and booked pending arraignment.
The recovered materials will undergo forensic analysis to support ongoing investigations and prosecution.
“Vandalism of power infrastructure disrupts businesses, causes prolonged outages and leaves exposed wires that endanger lives and livestock. Under the Energy Act 2019, offenders face heavy fines and imprisonment,” Kenya Power said.
The latest arrests come a day after Kenya Power announced the arrest of two other suspects in connection with the collapse of the transmission tower.
Peter Njuguna Richu and Gad Mwiruri Njine were arrested in Mai Mahiu during an intelligence-led operation conducted jointly by Kenya Power’s Security Team and the police.
Searches at their homes led to the recovery of tower bracing components, spanners, hacksaw blades and other tools believed to have been used in the vandalism of electricity infrastructure.
Kenya Power said the two suspects admitted involvement in the vandalism and provided information on other suspected vandalism networks and buyers of stolen electricity infrastructure materials operating in Nairobi, Kiambu and neighbouring counties.
The two remain in custody pending arraignment as investigations continue to identify and arrest other people allegedly involved in the network.
“We commend our Security Team and the police for this breakthrough, and reaffirm our commitment to protecting electricity infrastructure and prosecuting vandals,” Kenya Power said.
The company also thanked members of the public whose information has helped security teams identify suspects involved in the vandalism of electricity infrastructure.
“We thank members of the public whose tips continue to help us track down those vandalising electricity infrastructure. Report suspicious activity near electricity installations to the nearest police station or Kenya Power,” the company said.
The arrests follow the collapse of transmission tower 1052 along the Naivasha-Juja 132kV double-circuit line after it was allegedly vandalised.
The incident disrupted electricity supply through the Ruaraka Substation at about 3:00 a.m.
Kenya Power said its teams immediately rerouted electricity through alternative substations, restoring power to all affected customers by 4:30 a.m.
The company has warned that vandalism of electricity infrastructure threatens public safety, disrupts businesses and households and causes significant financial losses.
Kenya Power said vandalised infrastructure can also leave exposed electrical wires that pose risks to people and livestock.
“Protecting electricity infrastructure is a shared responsibility,” the company said.
