A man was stabbed and killed in a confrontation prompted by an attempted robbery in Kayole area, Nairobi.

Another man was stabbed and injured in the Sunday night drama in Muthaiga Dumpsite area, police and witnesses said.

The deceased was identified as Clinton Otieno, 18 and had sustained head and chest injuries.

The attackers used a knife and needle-like object in their mission, police said after inspecting the injuries of the victims.

The injured man was rushed to a local hospital and admitted in serious condition.

Police said they are looking for two known suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing and injuries.

The victims are said to have resisted a robbery prompting the stabbing incident.

The body was moved to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.

Cases of violent robberies using stabs are on the rise in parts of informal settlements.

Police usually advise victims to cooperate with their attackers for their own safety.

Elsewhere in Gachoka, Embu County, a man was stoned and burnt to death by a mob in a failed robbery incident.

The incident happened in Kanyariri village and the suspect was accused of breaking into a shop.

After stoning him to death, the mob set the body of the man on fire.

Police said he was burnt beyond recognition.

The remains were picked up to the mortuary pending autopsy and identification, police said.

Police usually discourage against mob lynching. They advice that suspects be surrendered to authorities for processing and possible prosecution.

Police statistics show at least one person is lynched daily in the country in the worrying trend.

Administrators have been instructed to roll out civic education programs to address the menace in general.

This is after it emerged some victims are framed up and killed by gangs in villages.
