Tottenham Hotspur are set to complete the signing of Netherlands international Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €60 million (£52m/$70m).
The 22-year-old midfielder has already undergone a medical in London and is now expected to finalize his move to Spurs in the coming days. Club officials moved quickly to secure his signature after losing out on other summer targets, including Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze.
Simons had earlier agreed terms with Chelsea, but Tottenham pushed ahead to complete the deal and avoid a repeat of 2013, when Brazilian winger Willian joined Chelsea after undergoing a medical at Spurs.
Simons is likely to slot into the No.10 role in Ange Postecoglou’s side, with James Maddison currently sidelined due to an ACL injury picked up in pre-season.
The Dutch midfielder made 78 appearances for RB Leipzig, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists. He has also earned 28 caps for the Netherlands national team.
If the paperwork is completed before midday on Friday, Simons could make his Premier League debut this weekend when Tottenham face Bournemouth.
