    Toumani Camara, born on May 8, 2000, in Brussels, Belgium, is a professional basketball player currently with the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA.

    He has a rich cultural background, with a mother of Belgian and Haitian descent and a father from Mali.

    Camara’s basketball journey began on local courts in Belgium before he moved to the United States at 16 to attend Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in Florida.

    In the 2023 NBA Draft, Camara was selected as the 52nd pick by the Phoenix Suns but was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers shortly after.

    In his rookie season, he averaged 7.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game before injuries limited his playing time.

    However, in the 2024-25 season, he has shown considerable improvement, averaging approximately 10.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

    Toumani has one older brother, Tidiane Camara, who played a significant role in introducing him to basketball.

    Their mother, Anne Le Docte, raised them primarily as a single parent after the death of their sister when she was just three months old.

    This loss has deeply influenced Toumani, who honors his family with four butterflies tattooed on his leg, representing himself, his mother, his brother, and his deceased sister.

    Tidiane has been a supportive figure throughout Toumani’s basketball journey.

    He attended games during the NBA Summer League, expressing pride in watching his brother play professionally.

    Career

    Camara began his college basketball career with the Georgia Bulldogs after transferring from Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in Florida, where he had a standout high school career.

    During his freshman year at Georgia, he averaged 6.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, playing alongside future NBA star Anthony Edwards.

    His performance improved in his sophomore season, where he averaged 12.8 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds.

    After two seasons, Camara decided to transfer to the University of Dayton, where he continued to develop his skills.

    At Dayton, Camara had a breakout senior season, averaging 13.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while earning All-Atlantic 10 First Team honors and a spot on the All-Defensive Team.

    He showcased a versatile skill set, combining perimeter shooting with athleticism and strong defensive capabilities.

    Additionally, he was recognized as the “Shorty” Sharpenter Memorial Rebounding Trophy winner and was named A-10 Player of the Week multiple times during his college tenure.

    In the NBA, Camara was awarded the Maurice Lucas Award for the 2023-24 season by the Portland Trail Blazers.

    This accolade honors a player who embodies the spirit of Maurice Lucas through their performance and community involvement.

    In his rookie season, he appeared in 70 games, averaging 7.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, while ranking first among second-round rookies in several statistical categories, including steals and total rebounds.
