A mob attacked and set a bus on fire after a fatal accident along Thika Road in Juja, Kiambu County.
This is after the minibus fatally knocked down a pedestrian, police said.

The incident happened near Juja town, after the 33-seater matatu lost control and struck the victim, killing him on the spot, police said.

The driver stopped few meters away as police were alerted visit the scene to address it.

The accident quickly attracted the attention of the boda boda riders and residents, who began attacking the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) driver before setting the vehicle on fire.

They then set the vehicle on fire. Police said by then the passengers who were on board had escaped for their safety. No one was injured.

Photos showed the minibus completely engulfed in fire as the crowd stood at a distance to watch as the vehicle went up in flames.

The incident disrupted transport along the busy highway that connects Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and Kiambu County, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.

The incident has since raised concerns over the a trend where residents, particularly boda boda riders, to resort to mob violence, including burning vehicles after accidents.

In a similar situation two months ago, a minibus belonging to Super Metro was set ablaze along the Thika Superhighway in Juja, Kiambu County, after it ran over a boda rider.

The incident took place on September 1, 2025 after the Super Metro bus knocked a resident while attempting to swerve in an effort to avoid a collision with a tuk-tuk.

It attracted outrage from boda boda riders, who confronted the bus driver before setting the vehicle on fire.

Super Metro termed the incident as unintentional, as alleged by the boda riders, and it further expressed remorse to the victim’s family.

Last month similar incidents happened in Nairobi where two buses were burnt following accidents involving boda bodas.
