A night guard was hacked to death while his two colleagues were injured in a robbery at a godown in Athi River, Machakos County.

The guard was identified as Patrick Chepkwony and was an employee of Pawn Security Company Limited. He was with his two colleagues when they were attacked by a gang of about 15 on Sunday dawn at the Jeenohl Training Kenya Limited godown.

The gang beat them indiscriminately before tying their hands and legs and left them in a room.

They then stole a laptop, a desktop and new CCTV cameras that were to be installed there.

The three were found in the room by other colleagues who were reporting for work and rushed to hospital where the victim succumbed while being attended to, police said.

The gang had by then escaped. The other guards were admitted in hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and hunt for the attackers.

Meanwhile, a fire killed a 51-year-old in his house in Maua, Meru County.

The man was identified as Morris Kunguta. Police said they were yet to establish the cause of the fire which also burnt down his house. the remains of the man were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

And a suspect died in hospital after being stoned by a mob in Dago area, Kisumu County.

This was after he was accused of being a thief. Police said they are investigating the incident which is the latest in a series others reported so far in the country. Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise amid efforts to address them.

Police discourage mob lynching and call them criminal. The police want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for processing and possible prosecution.
